Avoid a Hospital Visit
Cindy and Brand Cole of Haute Tans have found the perfect solution to providing eyewear in their regulated state of Texas. They have eliminated the sanitizing process of cleaning every single pair of goggles by switching to providing disposable Wink Ease for their tanners! It’s a clean pair every time and they don’t have those disgusting dunk tanks out on their counter. This saves tons of staff labor and time.
Add Eyewear To Your Salon Tour
Julie George Howell of Club Sun Salons does a great job of including eyewear in her salon tour. She recommends different types of lotion and eyewear with every bed that she shows her potential new tanners. This establishes both eyewear and lotion as a priority in her salon from the very beginning.
Every Excuse is a Sale
Bill Berglund of Euro Tan USA has a great trick to help tackle the common excuse he hears from tanners saying “I don’t need eyewear, I just close my eyes.” He takes out a flashlight and tells them to close their eyes. He shines the light in their closed eyes and, of course, they can see the light! He tells them that he’s holding a 5 watt, cheesy flashlight and you can see the light through your closed eyes; imagine what’s happening in my mega bed that has over 30,000 watts in it.
You can also demonstrate UV light passing through your eyelids by placing your hand over a flashlight. You can see the light passing through your hand. Compare the thickness of your hand to your eye. Your eyelids block less than 25% of UV light!
If you don’t have a flashlight to demonstrate the effects of UV light passing through closed eyes, just ask tanners to tilt their head up to the light, close their eyes, and slowly run their hand across their face.
Tie Eyewear to Upgrade Packages
Michael Chun at Sandollar Resorts uses a points system so his tanners aren’t required to use cash to purchase their eyewear. If a tanner purchases an upgrade package at Sandollar, they receive “bonus bucks” that can be put in their EFT accounts. If someone forgets their eyewear that day and don’t want to purchase a new pair, they can use their “bonus bucks” and buy Wink Ease for only $0.50 – No cash is needed!
Turn Your Salon Into a Spa
A great way to set yourself apart from the competition is to turn your salon into a spa! Provide an amenity such as free Wink Ease disposable eyewear with every tan. Nicole and Monique Caracola of Sun Tan Inc. promote their salon as “ultra clean” and give their tanners something for nothing.
Providing Wink Ease disposable eyewear is also a great way to save staff time and labor while eliminating the sanitation risks that come along with providing goggles. Kathy Kretz and Sheri Roy of Atlantis Sun Studio provide Wink Ease because their salon has a small staff and they want to focus on customer service instead of spending time sanitizing goggles.
Ready to Sell Eyewear?
Premiere Tans has successfully made the “Big Switch” from providing eyewear to selling it. They emphasized that they were interested in protecting the well being of their tanners and didn’t want to take any sanitation risks on community goggles. They made cleanliness a high priority at their salons and explained to their tanners the importance of owning their own goggles or using Wink Ease disposable eyewear, instead of sharing goggles with all of their clients.
Stop Wink-Ease Reuse
Midnite Sun and Cruise has come up with a great way to stop Wink Ease reuse. They mark today’s date on the back of every pair of Wink Ease that they sell. Then they explain to their client that this pair of Wink Ease will expire after today and they will need to buy a new pair.
Demo Wink-Ease
Anthony Infurna of Island Heat does a fantastic job of demonstrating the correct way to wear Wink Ease. They fold the Wink Ease for their tanners and place them on the paper to take into their tanning room. Their tanners love this, because they know the product has been assembled correctly and they are protecting their vision while eliminating tan lines!
Specials and Anniversaries
Christine Carlton of Transformations holds special events through out the year to grab the attention of her tanners. She held a fundraiser event where she helped raise money to save endangered tigers. If you want to host a special event, let us know and we’ll send you free goodies to help make your day special!
Luella of Electic Sun has a 'Crappy Eyewear Week' where she encourages her tanners to bring in their old, used goggles and pitch them into a fishbowl. If a tanner throws away an old pair of goggles, they get a discount on a new pair! This helps raise awareness about replacing your goggles every 4-6 months – just like a toothbrush.
Add-On Sales
Tanning Bed has held the most successful Fresh Ease contest in Eye Pro history. Their 28 salons sold 10,000 Fresh Ease singles in 10 days during the month of May! How’d they do it? They made sure every tanner coming into their salons knew about the benefits of using a Fresh Ease After Tan Body Cloth. Once tanners try it, they’ll buy it!
Total Tan has also done a great job with their add-on sales. They sold over 2,400 Fresh Ease and Wink Ease combinations for a $1.00 in the month of August!
Max Tan had no trouble selling an expensive bottle of lotion, but was lacking on their accessory sales. They implemented the “would you like fries with that?” theory. Meaning they don’t let their tanners get into a tanning bed without hearing about a hot new accessory!
Invest $0.50
Teresa Terry is known as the “eyewear nazi” at her tanning salon and makes sure all of her tanners know about the importance of eyewear. She even speaks out at high schools stressing the importance of protecting your vision from overexposure to UV light.
Think Outside the Box
Gina Papadapoulus of Ocean Rayz Tanning Studio uses the Internet to reach her clients. She sends them important information regarding eyewear, lotions, specials and sales that she’s having.
Harry and Marie Jones of Palm Beach Mega Tan developed a promotion that is unique to their salon. They have an exotic leopard theme and created a poster that told their tanners that they are helping to save endangered animals every time they use Wink Ease disposable eyewear.
Stacey Sodder was tired of hearing her customers complain that wearing eyewear was uncomfortable. So she took a picture of her dog Domino wearing his eyewear and said “If my dog can do it, so can you!”
